The Research and Development of the One to One Collection
One to One Development Trust has ensured its main priority for 2007-2010 is working with One to One Productions to ensure "The Collection" becomes preserved and accessible for future audiences. The first part of "The Collection", with films under the theme "Festivals & Galas" will be launched online in June 2010.
The One to One Collection holds over 1000 hours of professional video tape of communities in the Wakefield District and beyond. Filming began in 1988 and started out extensively documenting changes in communities through the demise of the mining industry, capturing the culture through to the ongoing regeneration of the Wakefield District. The Collection is a significant body of film work, commissioned for a variety of purposes and through different partner organisations, mainly documentaries, exploring the heritage and culture of the Wakefield District and its people and its changing landscape.
The Collection also includes films from different parts of the UK and overseas including China, Bhutan and Europe.
Analogue video tape has a life span of 10-15 years. The oldest material was at risk of total deterioration and the Development Trust have been supporting
One to One Productions undergoing an urgent process to save the material by re-mastering it on digital formats, cataloguing material and preparing more recent footage/films for the web and building an online Archive and storage database.
Since 1988
One to One Productions has been filming in the Wakefield area. Over 1000 hours of film work that focuses so closely on a geographical area over a sustained period of time offers a fascinating insight into the heritage, culture and identity of a place.
Throughout this time in modern history the communities around Wakefield have gone through a massive transformation with the demise of the mining industry, the deprivation that ensued with all its social problems, the start of economic regeneration and more recently a new renascence that is changing the face of the area.
The priority for One to One Development Trust is to ensure The Collection showcases some of
One to One Productions earlier work from the Wakefield area. The Collection will divide into different themes including: Festivals and Galas, Community Arts, Regeneration, Sport and Recreation, Health and Wellbeing. There is a strong focus on community engagement throughout.
The Collection will launch its first theme of "Festivals & Galas" in the summer of 2010. Films and unedited footage will be available online and will be showing at venues throughout the Wakefield District from June 2010.
One to One Productions have self financed a lot of the digitisation work of The Collection, with key aspects of the project having been funded through Research & Development Funding from Arts Council England - Yorkshire and Arts Funding from Wakefield MDC.
As we move towards the Olympics the second and third themes of The One to One Collection "Sport & Recreation and Health & Wellbeing" will be developed and films and footage from these themes ready for showing in 2012.
TIMELINE
TIMELINE is an exciting project promoting film and screen heritage in a range of venues across Wakefield District. Working with One to One Productions we are screening locally made films and footage from professionals and amateurs, screening archive films in a series of community venues throughout 2009/10.
It is hoped that through the series of screenings we encourage interest in archive film and will be able to unearth significant reels or tapes of old film/video originated by people from the Wakefield District or of the District.
As well as promoting an interest and awareness in archive film we are researching the impact of film on good health and well being. We are exploring the benefits of bringing people together in community settings, focusing on their heritage, sense of community and place, to see if film can act as a vehicle to enhance social cohesion, well being and civic pride.
TIMELINE will run until December 2010.
